Millions of women and men are affected by unsightly spider and varicose veins. These problem veins are often hereditary but can also be caused by occupational factors, pregnancy, hormonal shifts, etc. The veins often become noticeable during a person’s teen years, though for some the veins don’t become obvious until their 30s or 40s.
At Light Touch we use sclerotherapy to reduce the appearance of spider and varicose veins. We perform sclerotherapy by injecting a solution through a very fine needle directly into the vein. Most patients are pleased with the way sclerotherapy makes their legs look clearer and healthier, and we think you will agree.
Prior to the procedure you will have an initial consultation with a technician and the doctor.
Many patients report feeling little to no discomfort during or after the treatment. However, some cramping may occur, usually as larger veins are injected. You may also feel some cramping for a few days after treatment.
Immediately after your treatment we will have you put on your compression stockings and take a quick walk around the vicinity. You are advised to wear your compression stockings for 24 hours following your initial procedure. After that, you should wear them for eight to ten hours every day for two weeks. The medical compression stockings we carry are much more flattering than traditional medical stockings and are very durable. They come in a variety of colors and styles. Your measurements will be taken upon consultation.
Do not engage in strenuous aerobic activity or weight lifting for two weeks following the procedure.
We will schedule for you to have a follow-up consultation/treatment one month after your initial treatment.
Sclerotherapy will enhance the appearance of your legs. However it is unrealistic to believe every affected vein will disappear completely as a result of treatment. Two or more sessions are often required to achieve optimal results. You should also be aware that this procedure treats only those veins that are currently visible. It will not permanently alter your venous system, nor will it necessarily prevent new veins from surfacing in the future. As time passes, you may find that you need touch-ups or even full treatments for any new veins that appear. Some patients choose to have follow-up treatments every few years, but even if you decide not to have further sclerotherapy, your legs will still look better than they would have if you had never had any treatment at all.
